The end of May...

I really cannot believe May is over.

At the beginning of this month, I was complaining that regular gas was $3.74/gallon. Now regular gas is $4.19/gallon. At the beginning of this month, Mary was just starting to really crawl. Now she zooms from room to room like an expert. At the start of May the weather was cloudy and wet and crummy. And today the weather was cloudy and wet and sorta crummy but not totally because at least there isn't snow on the ground. Yes, you do hear me rolling my eyes!

Chuck will be flying out first thing in the morning tomorrow. He's going to be way up in Maine; he hasn't been to Maine yet, so that will be interesting for him. Please pray for his safety while he is gone, and a quick return. I hope everyone is having a blessed weekend!

God bless!

It's been busy

We've had some really good times this week, enjoying Chuck's time at home and getting things done. If you haven't visited Chuck's blog in a while, head on over. He's put up some great pictures!

Not much of an update, but it's hard for me to type right now. We are all well, though!

God bless!

Another Quick Update

This has been a fairly busy week at the Holcomb "homestead". The weather is making a decent attempt at finally warming up, although it is definitely still "sweater weather" most of the time.

Mary has had a busy week, too! All in this week, she has learned how to clap really well, how to pull up to stand against the couch, and how to sneak practically out the front door when "Somebody" leaves the doors open and "Nobody" is watching her. She has also figured out that while rice and banana are pretty good, tiny bites of homemade brownie is even better. She was 8 months old on Monday, and weighs in at about 20 pounds; it was hard to get an exact weight because she was flopping in the scale like a, well... like a fish. She is about 27 inches tall as near as we could tell. Oh, and another neat trick she has learned- staying awake all day long except for snatching little bitty naps while nursing, which is what she is doing at this moment, actually. The only thing she hasn't managed this week would be to grow some hair or teeth. All in good time. I love my chubby, bald, toothless, sleepless baby!

Good news for this Friday- Chuck is on his way home! He's pretty much decided that his phone can't get much of a signal this coming week, so maybe he'll get a nice long break this time.

God bless!

Mary had a little lamb

Mary had a little lamb with shiny little eyes.
The lamb snuck up on Mary and it was a big surprise.

Mary had a little lamb, with fleece a soft, clean black.
The lamb said "baaa" at Mary, so Mary "baa"-d right back!

Just real quick...

Chuck left today for Georgia, after four days off that passed way too quickly. We're thinking this might be a short job, but we never know. I'm really glad that he was home with us for Mother's Day weekend!

I hope you enjoy this little video of Mary doing an "Applesauce Dance" this morning.

God bless!

Who is Mother?

A mother is the most important person on earth. She cannot claim the honor of having built Notre Dame Cathedral. She need not. She has built something more magnificent than any Cathedral - a dwelling for an immortal soul, the tiny perfection of her baby's body.

Finally it's gone.

Yesterday was the first day I noticed there is absolutely no snow anywhere to be found. Snow is gone and spring is here; we made it through our second UP winter. God is good!

Quick Update

Yesterday we finished putting the first layer in the other two garden beds. The next layer will be pack from the sheep pen, but that will have to wait until the rain stops.

This morning we did a little work outside, but it started raining steadily in the afternoon. We have snow in the forecast again. Yes, yes... That's what we have to get used to and learn to expect for early May. It will be less than an inch, and will surely melt quickly. Even the pile next to the garage is steadily shrinking, but still there.

Mary is currently informing me that it is neither expedient nor realistic for me to plan she might go to sleep on her own. She politely but urgently (and rather loudly) suggests I publish this post NOW and rescue her from solitude. How could I refuse?

God bless!

Liquid Gold

I noticed today that our little gas station is now charging $3.74 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline.

Does anybody have it higher?
