If I had known sooner that they could be nap-inducing, I'd have been giving her a potato every day!

Shameless Plug
Just in case anybody missed the announcement on Chuck's blog, he has a new website where he is posting his pictures. You can now see them at fotochuck.smugmug.com
The quality is so much better than at blogger. He puts family pictures there, and he also has some truly beautiful examples of landscape and nature photography.
Go visit and enjoy!

Finally Summer!
The first day of summer for most of the United States is tomorrow, June 20. But we had our first "unofficial" summer day today.
We borrowed our neighbor's canoe and went to Courtney Lake. While out on the lake, Chuck and the younger boys saw a bald eagle swoop right past them to pluck a fish out of the water. We fed some bread to some sea gulls and a chipmunk. There were swarms of mosquitoes, but not too many biting flies, thankfully. Robert, Raechel, and Daniel caught a few fish while there, but none large enough to keep.
I'm sure Chuck will be putting some pictures up this evening. He's outside playing with the kids: they are playing baseball. What else?
God bless!

Father's Day Weekend
We had a beautiful day yesterday. Chuck made it home without incident on Saturday evening. That was nice because it's common for his flight home to be changed or delayed. (Almost never happens when he's leaving, of course...) We had a very relaxing day yesterday, and I was able to chat with my Dad for a while in the evening. And now it is Monday morning, and we have a busy day planned with lessons, garden maintenance, and getting the sheep's "winter pen" ready to house chickens. Well, I hope so anyway. I tend to make big plans and then fail to follow through... one of my faults that I'm trying to change!
Happy Monday, all.... God bless!

Yay!
Chuck will be home in less than an hour! He was only in Maine for almost two weeks (would have been two weeks tomorrow) but it seemed like much longer.

Poetry by Raechel
daredevil
I will crack my skull
to see you smile,
to hear you giggle I
will swim over the
Nile!
schoolwork
I'd sooner eat alien
eyes, then do my schoolwork
with big surprize. I'd sooner
jump off a 12 story building,
than do my homework
and earn a gulding.
(a gulding is a piece of money)
Mary
Mary is cute,
Mary is nice,
Mary is full of sugar and spice.
Summer
an announcement to the world,
summer is here
put away your sleds,
open your ear!
Do you hear the birds singing?
in the park, do you hear the children swinging?
Winter
in winter we all
play in the snow,
until we get killed
by Ron's plow. in winter
we all sled down the hill, why,
we're doing it still!
[I feel I should explain the reference to "getting killed" by the plow... our neighbor plowed for us over the winter and it was a game the kids made up to "dodge" his little plow. If he came at a pile they were standing on, and they got knocked over, they were "killed". Trust me- it wasn't as dangerous as it sounds!]

Math
math is fun! it
is sweet, like gum!
[Raechel was inspired to write this poem after scoring very well on a math drill after only the second try.]
